It is not just North America where exciting sports seasons are underway—English football has three games in the books as another season of Premiership soccer continues. Sports betting takes many forms this fall, with NFL betting and NCAA football betting available. As well, MLB betting enters the final couple months as the season winds down and playoffs near. Football starts this weekend in the United States, while in England there are many exciting football matches of another kind.
Tottenham Hotspur take on West Bromwich Albion as both teams try to separate themselves from the jumbled table in week four of action. With three games played, the Spurs, a team that overachieved and impressed last season, have started off with a win, loss, and draw and four points in the table. They are one of 13 clubs with three, four, or five points in the young year.
A recent loss at home to Wigan Athletic 1-0, a nice start was stunted. A well played draw against Manchester City to open the year gave them a point, and that was followed by an impressive away win aginst Stoke City, 2-1. In Champions League play, the Spurs beat the Young Boys 3-0. Those three goals, however, are one more than Tottenham has scored in three Premiership games. Gareth Bale has the two goals this season for the Spurs.
In addition to the loss, the Spurs received more bad news this week as striker Jermain Defoe was injured playing for England and will be out at least six weeks.
Bromwich is also coming off a Premier League loss, dropping 1-0 at Liverpool. Their first game of the year was a 6-0 pounding by at Chelsea, but they rebounded with a 1-0 win over Sunderland. They return home for two games which should surely give them an advantage against a more talented Tottenham team.
The club is among three others who have a lone win on the year. Their stats are a bit skewed considering they played Chelsea, the top team in the table. Without that match, Bromwich have scored once and conceded one goal.
They scored two goals in Carling Cup action, beating Leyton Orient 2-0, but have had a tough time finding the back of the net in Premier League action. After a year in which they were relegated, West Bromwich Albion looks for their second win of the year in the Premiership, as well as their second goal of the year. Peter Odemwingie has the lone goal for the club.
Betting lines: Last season Tottenham vied for the Champions League position and was strong all year long, and look for similar play this year. They have had struggle scoring early on, but that can’t last for long. Look for the Spurs to come out strong on the road and beat a less talented Bromwich team 2-0.
